Tucked away on the bustling shores of Mount Pleasant, like a gem waiting to be found are The Cottages on Charleston Harbor. Here you’ll find an intimate resort on a premier oceanfront setting. The commanding harbor views and the beautifully designed cottages make this fabulous resort a top-notch destination. The visionary designer of this extraordinary resort found a way to carve out a serene oasis just minutes away from downtown Mount Pleasant and Charleston.
We found our cottage, Glorious Morning, to be more than comforting after our four-hour drive from Charlotte. The vaulted ceiling, more than ample windows, and gas fireplace in a perfectly designed living room was truly special. Modern and coastal furnishings with original artwork enhanced this charming cottage. The spacious two bedrooms and three full bathrooms was a luxury of space for our family of four. The well-equipped kitchen was perfect to whip up a meal or two.
Nice touches abound – binoculars on the mantel, two umbrellas by the front door, and thick terry cloth robes hang in the closets. If you don’t want to be disturbed just hang a provided seashell on the front door. In earshot of the lapping waves, a screened-in porch with rocking chairs plus a hammock provided the perfect place to enjoy the gorgeous, unobstructed, east-facing harbor views. The sailboats and sunrises were gorgeous.
All of their 10 cottages are the same size and floor plan, but offer either a harbor or marsh view.
Deluxe Amenities & Services
The Cottages give you the feel of a stay at your favorite beach house, but with the amenities and services of a luxury hotel. You can enjoy their deluxe continental breakfast in the Clubhouse lounge, poolside, or in your cottage. The breakfast choices vary a bit from day to day, but include muffins, bagels, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and breakfast bars. Sausage biscuits and pan French toast were offered on different days during our stay.
After a ride around Patriot’s Point on one of their complimentary bikes, you can lounge by the pool or slip into the inviting hot tub. Either spot is a great place to enjoy the comfort of The Cottages and the pace of the Low Country.
Prior to your arrival, you can arrange for cribs, high chairs, and strollers for any little ones in your group. If you’d like groceries sitting in your cottage’s refrigerator prior to your check-in, this can be arranged as well. Don’t want to haul down sporting equipment, you can prearrange corn hole, lawn darts, and numerous water sports equipment.
The beach view cottages open up to a narrow beach, but with a beautiful view of the harbor. It is boasts quite a collection of oyster shells, so I recommend shoes be worn. There are two beach areas not affected by the tide where guests can plop down into a beach chair to soak in the surrounding water views and the warm sunshine.
Sand Dollar Tradition
A cottage tradition is to throw a sand dollar in the harbor at sunset. The Cottages encourage guests to keep the tradition alive by providing a sand dollar along with a note to remind the guests of this special custom.
Indulge at Vincent Chicco’s
For a truly spectacular dining experience, have a member of The Cottages staff make a reservation for you at their sister restaurant in downtown Charleston, Vincent Chicco’s. Only a few paces off the beaten path on a lively alleyway, you’ll find it housed in what many years ago was a hay warehouse. You’ll find Vincent Chicco’s to be an elegant Italian restaurant and its staff warm and welcoming. The wide-open space and grand ceilings still allow for an intimate setting in this historic and beautifully refurbished building. You will enjoy wonderfully prepared Italian fare layered in a variety of rich flavors, paired with impeccable service tending to your every need.
