For the seasoned as well as the occasional traveler, you have to be ready for just about anything that can make a trip go sideways. Among these, the weather is quite likely the least predictable and potentially most dangerous. I recently got a taste of being at the mercy of Mother Nature and have a travel tip to keep you ready when she doesn’t cooperate with your dinner plans.
I spent several rather frigid days in the otherwise very nice town of Warsaw, Indiana. On the second night a freezing mist started late in the afternoon. Needless to say, it didn’t take long for a shiny coat of ice to form on everything. At only 7 degrees, it was as dangerous to walk the barely 100 yards to a restaurant for dinner as it would have been to drive.
Luckily for me, earlier that day I had made a stop at a grocery store and picked up a few necessities for the week. So, for dinner I remained in my room and enjoyed Wheat Thins, Palmetto Cheese, an apple, and some dark chocolate. All of this was wonderfully paired with a few glasses of The Kraken Black Spiced Rum – now that’s living right there.
So the next time you’re on the road for even a day, keep an eye on the weather and pack a few snacks (and some Kraken), just in case.
