If you only have time for one excursion while visiting Grand Bahama, it must be a CocoNutz Cruisers tour! Rated on Trip Advisor as the #1 thing-to-do in Freeport, my family experienced this excursion and discovered the many reasons why it’s #1!

The Bahamas couldn’t possibly have a more wonderful ambassador than Alfredo, CocoNutz Cruisers very personable owner. From the warm greeting to his genuine concern for your safety to his knowledge of the Bahamas, Alfredo is the perfect host.

For those concerned about pedaling all day, you need not worry – these bikes have an electric motor. A cross between a bike and a scooter, you can pedal as much as you want or use the motor and the bike will do all the work. On a long straightaway, I held down the throttle and clocked the maximum speed at 20 mph.

At the beginning of the tour, Alfredo carefully explains how to safely ride the motorized bike using the added controls. Then, he engaged us in a game-show style quiz about hand signals used while riding bikes. Everyone is assigned a bike and takes a couple of test runs down a side street around to make sure everyone is comfortable. Alfredo will even run alongside younger guests to assist if needed on this practice lap. We all felt the motorized bike was extremely easy to learn and use.

Led by one of Alfredo’s wonderful guides, we were given a truly local feel while visiting beyond the typical touristy places. Our stops included the popular Taino Beach, Unexso’s Dolphin Encounters lagoon, Millionaire Row, and Banana Bay Restaurant with outdoor tables overlooking the breathtaking Fortune Beach. We wrapped up our afternoon with a visit to a local spot where we were treated to a demonstration of how to get the meat of a conch from its shell. That’s not something you see everyday.

Throughout the tour, Alfredo followed along in a chase vehicle. Whenever, we went through an intersection he would pull ahead and block traffic, making it extra safe for us. In his car, he carried our bags, so we didn’t have to have anything on our bikes.

As a special bonus, Alfredo is a great photographer who will capture your whole experience and happily share all the photos with you via email after your tour. His specialties are group shots, action shots, and fun poses on Taino Beach.

Across the board, my family of four loved this excursion. The motorized bikes are easy and super fun to ride. We enjoyed learning a bit of Bahamian history and seeing a handful of local spots not seen on your typical tours. Our lunch at Banana Bay was delicious and the view was postcard worthy. When we departed, we felt were saying goodbye to a friend.
